ARTIST

STATEMENT

“Love alone is Life,” written by a revolutionary spiritual thinker, Mary Baker Eddy, encapsulates my whole reason for being. It fuels my passion for progressive, healing ideas, my desire for greater compassion for all humankind, my eternal optimism, and my profound hope for the manifestation and maintenance of beauty throughout life’s expression.

It has arrived in my art through many byways: my start in the wide open skies and quiet of West Texas, surrounded by a community of creative, do-it-yourself characters; my all-embracing liberal arts education; my exposure to distinct types of people and cultures which proves that love is the common ground on which we all stand; my humility-inducing role as a parent of four children; my immensely satisfying career as a creator of characters through costume design.

Specific artistic expression beyond costume design became an unstoppable impulse, flooding out of me without really knowing how or why. I vacuum up so much daily minutiae—ideas, emotions, forms, functions, colors—that I simply need to answer their call and put them into kaleidoscopic, textural, personal artistic works.

And there would be no art from me at all if the coupling of curiosity and childlikeness didn’t exist. These are the keys that unlock the kingdom of my creativity and the force of my motivation—the full-blown yielding to openness, humbleness, and lifelong learning.

“I believe in upcycling, and don’t mind things looking heartfelt and homemade.”

EXPERIENCE

My life as a self-taught artist is a natural extension of various creative careers. From the frenetic pace of child-rearing and film production, I found a path to the meditative and highly expressive field of art. My goal is to produce works that inspire hope, joy, mental revolution and renewal, and consideration of spirituality as the path out of despair and dysfunction.

I am a self-educated costume designer and stylist for over 400 TV commercials (with award-winning directors, Oscar award-winning cinematographers, and celebrities and sports figures); feature films; television; print (advertising, fashion periodicals; and red carpet for Oscar award-winners).

Earlier in my career, I worked in development for award-winning film producers and a Tony award-winning Broadway producer.

In my spare time, I have written and co-written three screenplays, one of which was in development for Oscar award-winning producers and director. I am co-producer on …

I also apply my creativity to unique home design projects. I love my multi-potentialite career which weaves different creative threads together seamlessly.
